PTCRB updates OTA requirement in NAPRD03 v5.29 and PPMD v2.25

PTCRB NAPRD v5.29 and PPMD v2.25 were released on Oct. 7, 2016 and have updates on OTA testing requirement as following:

1. For IoT (internet of Things) Device, RF Performance test applicability shall be determined through a combination of the use of Appendices O.5 or O.6 (as applicable) of the CTIA OTA Test Plan and the IoT DUT characteristics listed in below:

If the OEM response to all 3 questions is “N”, TRP/TIS testing shall only be required in the highest-order RAT for each band supported by the DUT, and TRP on all 3 L/M/H channels; TIS only in the mid channel.

If the OEM response to question 1 and 2 is “N”, but the response to question 3 is “Y”, then NHPRP ±30°/NHPIS±30° testing shall only be required in the highest-order RAT for each band supported by the DUT, and NHPRP ±30° on all 3 L/M/H channels; NHPIS±30° only in the mid channel.

2. For RFT-100 testing (Power Reduction Due to Proximity Sensor), until CTIA OTA Test Plan v3.7 become mandatory, Testing for LTE Band 66 shall using the channel defined in the table below:

If the device supports Band 4 and Band 66, then testing is only required to be completed in Band 66.

3.
For Integrated Device ECO, If the lab determines that radiated performance testing is required,

3.1 The ECO’s TRP shall be no more than 2 dB below the Parent-product’s TRP
3.2 The ECO’s TIS shall be no more than 2 dB above the Parent-Product’s TIS
3.3 This 2 dB rule shall also apply if NHPRP and NHPIS are applicable to the integrated product’s use case in place of TRP/TIS

4. In the case of antenna changes, the lab is responsible for determining whether TRP, TIS, RSE, NHPRP or NHPIS testing, as applicable, is required. The lab shall also determine whether full testing is required or if spot-checks would be sufficient.
