The Eco-design Directive 2009/125/EC for Energy-related Products (ErP), replacing 2005/32/EC for Energy-using Products (EuP) to extend the application scope, went into effect on November 20, 2009. All regulated products are required to disclose product life cycle impact assessment per the complemantary implementing measures to improve product performance.
Per the Directive, the products must have the declaration of conformity when being labelled with CE marking. ErP requirements can be fulfilled upon methods of ErP conformity through internal design control (Annex IV) or management system (Annex V).
The implementing measures set forth detailed power consumption standards for electrical and electronic products. In addition, many other countries have their own power reduction programs as well to enhance energy efficiency and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
ENERGY STAR will require that all products listed in the program to have their energy performance validated by EPA Recognized Certification Body and testing lab prior to product labeling as of 1 January 2011. The differences between renewal and existing ENERGY STAR Program are that manufacturers cannot voluntarily mark their products when they meet the energy efficiency requirements. This new Enhanced Testing and Verification procedure is seeking to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and other pollutants as well as help consumers to identify and purchase the energy-efficient products more easily, increase the use of those products and then deliver energy and cost saving.
Bureau Veritas now can provide our partners ENERGY STAR testing services. Besides, as an EPA Recognized Certification Body, we can also provide ENERGY STAR Certification services.
